Graeme MacKay Trio

The March meeting of Skye Accordion and Fiddle Club in their usual venue of the Royal Hotel, Portree saw few adult Club players in attendance but their lack of numbers was more than compensated for by our young, mainly teenage, participants. Acting m.c. Jim Campbell opened proceedings by inviting young accordionist Emily Matheson on stage for several sets beautifully played to set the audience feet tapping Wendy Riva on fiddle gave her usual polished performance with several well known tunes and was followed by wee Ciara MacLean on accordion. Also on accordion, and ably accompanied by her dad George on guitar was young Erin Baker who always receives a great welcome from the audience. Two young fiddlers making their solo debuts at the Club were Kathleen MacDonald and, last but not least, six year old Finlay James who gave an astounding performance which belied his tender years and earned him the loudest acclaim of the night from the delighted audience. Special guests of the evening were The Graeme Mackay Trio who put on an entertaining programme interspersed with banter. Bandleader Graeme was on his three-row Hohner button box with midi, with his father Thomas MacKay on drums and fine musician and bandleader Matthew MacLennan on keyboards. As was only to be expected of a former Scottish accordion champion, Graeme and his colleagues were well received by the large and appreciative audience who joined in with some singalong sets and all too soon the evening drew to a close. On Thursday 6th April the Club look forward to being entertained by the great music of The Iain Cathcart Scottish Dance Band.
